This Veterans Day, we come together as a city and state to honor those who have served and sacrificed to protect our great nation.

As a former member of the United States Air Force during 9/11, I am particularly affected by Veterans Day. When I look into the eyes of a fellow veteran, I am cognizant of the sacrifice we made to this country and the bond that we have. We committed ourselves to the highest of standards and expectations and met them head on.

Our veterans face challenges coming back from active duty ranging from PTSD, to various mental illnesses and in some cases addiction. On this day, which I hold so dearly, is a call for action to continue to address these issues among my fellow veterans. Let us work together to maintain trust and faith between those who currently serve, our veterans, and their families.

Please take some time and thank a veteran or someone currently serving. We also are accepting items to be donated to the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative such as cooking items, toiletries, furniture and other general household items. Please feel free to swing by City Hall to drop off these items from November 15th through November 20th during normal business hours (8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.).

I want to thank those who have served and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We are inspired by your service to the United States and wish you the best of luck moving forward.
