A substitute resolution that commits the City of Milwaukee to continue working to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Accord will be discussed at the full Common Council meeting tomorrow Tuesday June 20, at 9:00 a.m.

The meeting will take place at City Hall (200 E. Wells St.), in the third floor in the Common Council Chamber.

Aldermen Michael Murphy and Nik Kovac are the primary sponsors of the resolution – Council file 170337. “We feel the Paris Climate Accord is a document that contains mutual goals for us, and would also be beneficial to the next generation,” Alderman Murphy said.  Alderman Kovac added, “The City of Milwaukee is already working toward using 25% renewable energy in city buildings.”

On June 1st, President Donald Trump announced the United States would withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord, joining Syria and Nicaragua as the only nations not recognizing the Accord. Despite the United States not being one of 195 countries to either sign on or ratify the Paris Climate Accord, states and local authorities have the option to pledge to the goals mentioned in the Paris Agreement.

Alderman Robert J. Bauman and Alderman Cavalier Johnson have been added as co-sponsors to file #170337.
