Village of Slinger Trustee and Washington County Board Chair Rick Gundrum is advancing to the general election to vie for former GOP Rep. Bob Gannon’s seat.

Gundrum, who won the 58th AD with nearly 39 percent of the vote according to unofficial election results from Washington County, will go on to face Dem Dennis Degenhardt, the former president and CEO of Glacier Hills Credit Union, in the Jan. 16 election.

The 12-year Washington County board member attributed his victory in the four-way GOP primary to his experience in office, saying he had a “proven track record where others didn’t.”

He also said he plans to use the same strategies and message as he campaigns for a general election victory against Degenhardt.

“I’m going to campaign as if I’m in the primary,” Gundrum said.

Gundrum’s challengers were: legislative aide Tiffany Koehler, who ran for the seat in 2014; Steve Stanek, who owns a hazardous waste transportation and environmental consulting business; and Spencer Zimmerman, a chauffeur and flight line technician.

Koehler finished second, gaining nearly 31 percent of the vote, while Stanek came in third with just over 29 percent, according to the unofficial results. Zimmerman trailed far behind, picking up just over 1 percent of the vote.

The 58th Assembly District includes Slinger, Jackson, Town of Polk, parts of Richfield, Town of Trenton and West Bend — all in Washington County.
