Three groups have teamed up for new TV and radio ads defending U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin following spots from conservative groups that accused her of caring only about herself during a scandal at the Tomah VA.

The $500,000 buy includes TV spots in Madison, Green Bay and Milwaukee.

The TV ad, paid for by Majority Fund and Vote Vets Action Fund, opens with a man identified as Joe Roberts, an Iraq War vet from Spooner, saying Wisconsin veterans “know the real Tammy Baldwin.” Majority Forward is the 501c4 affiliated with the Senate Majority PAC.

Dan Herbst, an Army vet from Watertown, says political attacks on “Baldwin from out-of-state billionaires just aren’t true.”

Susan Mours, an Army Nurse Corps vet from Sussex, said Baldwin has “made real reforms” at Tomah. The ad says that includes working with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars on a bipartisan bill to change how the VA trains doctors on prescribing opioids.

“Blaming Sen. Baldwin is ridiculous,” Mours said.

Herbst adds, “These billionaires are just playing politics,” before Roberts closes the spot, “Veterans know Tammy Baldwin has our back.”

The radio version, paid by for Vote Vets Action Fund and America Working Together, covers similar territory.

The spots come two weeks after Illinois-based Restoration PAC started a TV ad accusing Baldwin of being “slow to protect our heroes, but quick to protect herself” on the Tomah VA. The Iowa-based Americas PAC also did a radio spot hitting Baldwin on problems at the Tomah VA.
