| MADISON – Governor Scott Walker today appointed Melinda Tempelis to serve as Outagamie County district attorney. Tempelis replaces outgoing District Attorney Carrie Schneider, who was appointed by Governor Walker to serve as a judge on the Outagamie County Circuit Court.“I am pleased to appoint Melinda Tempelis to be the next district attorney in Outagamie County,” said Governor Walker. “She has distinguished herself in her career as a prosecutor, and I am confident she will serve the public with wisdom, integrity, and a strong commitment to justice.”
Tempelis served Outagamie County as a prosecutor for nearly 15 years, the last 10 of which she served as the deputy district attorney. In this position, she handled various felony and misdemeanor criminal cases including those involving homicide, sexual assault, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency, and child protection cases. Tempelis serves her community as an appointed commissioner on the Governor’s Juvenile Justice Commission and as a member of more than 15 local and state multi-disciplinary committees and boards. Former Governor Tommy Thompson wrote in support of Tempelis, noting she “is hard-working, honest and has dedicated herself to public service as a prosecutor. She has an outstanding record of success in the courtroom, and is also an excellent manager of the office.” Former Governor Thompson added, “She is a fair prosecutor and a thoughtful leader in the community. I cannot think of a better person to appoint to protect and serve the citizens of Outagamie County.” Attorney General Brad Schimel wrote in support of Tempelis, “She understands that it is her job to enforce the law the way it is written.” The Attorney General added, “Melinda Tempelis is an ethical prosecutor who works hard, respects others, and is genuinely committed to customer service as a public servant.” Outagamie County Sheriff Brad Gehring also highly recommends Tempelis, stating, “I am confident she will continue to serve and lead our county with continued dedication and commitment. She has sound judgment and represents the State with passion and integrity.” Tempelis earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs. She currently resides in Appleton, Wisconsin. |
