State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, D-Alma, will formally announce Monday she plans to run for guv, according to an email sent to supporters today.

Vinenout has been promoting a “special announcement” Monday in Black River Falls about her intentions for the guv’s race. Today’s email told supporters the campaign wanted them to know “that she will announce her plans to run for Governor at the event, and we hope you can be there to join her and show your support.”

Vinehout, who was first elected to the Senate in 2006, ran for guv in the 2012 recall election, but finished a distant third in a five-way Dem primary. She was weighing another bid for guv in 2013 when she was involved in a car crash and decided against a run as she instead focused on recovering from a badly injured arm.

She will join an increasingly crowded Dem field for guv. Those who have formally announced include state schools Superintendent Tony Evers, Milwaukee businessman Andy Gronik, activist Mike McCabe and state Rep. Dana Wachs of Eau Claire, along with others. Several potential candidates are also still weighing bids, including former state Rep. Kelda Roys, former state Dem Chair Matt Flynn and Mahlon Mitchell, head of the state firefighters union who ran for lt. guv in the 2012 recall elections.
