UNITED AUTO WORKERS ENDORSE RANDY BRYCE FOR CONGRESS

Caledonia, WI — Today, the United Auto Workers (UAW) Wisconsin State CAP Council endorsed Randy Bryce for Congress against Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan.

“On behalf of 6,000 retired and active UAW members in Wisconsin’s First Congressional District, the UAW Wisconsin State CAP Council is pleased to endorse our union brother, Randy Bryce, as the best candidate to take on Paul Ryan” said Mike Bink, Chairperson, UAW Wisconsin State CAP Council.

“The almost twenty years that Paul Ryan has been in office have been a disaster for working people in Southeast Wisconsin. Four major auto plants have closed in this district since Ryan took office. His fixation on tax cuts for the rich has done nothing to stop thousands of manufacturing jobs from leaving. After twenty years of Ryan, an entire generation of working people in this district are worse off than the generation before them. Randy Bryce is one of us. He knows what it is like to build things. He is always there for us, wherever workers are fighting back. We know he is on our side just as we know that Ryan is not. Randy knows that working people need higher wages, affordable health care, and the right to join a union. It’s about time that working people got a chance to work and vote for one our own to take on Ryan. The UAW is proud to support Randy Bryce.”

The UAW’s endorsement comes on the heels of district-wide Labor Day events, at which union members from across Southeast Wisconsin made their voices heard in support of a $15 minimum wage, health care for all, and justice in the workplace.

“Paul Ryan has lied to us here in Southeast Wisconsin for almost two decades now,” said Bryce. “His policies benefit the wealthiest, and leave us–all of us here in Southeast Wisconsin–behind. I am honored to receive the UAW’s support and look forward to working with them to build our movement to repeal and replace Paul Ryan.”

The UAW joins a growing list of labor unions supporting Bryce’s candidacy, including the Service Employee’s International Union, United Food and Commercial Workers, International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers, International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union, and the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.
