The Assembly kicked off its floor session this afternoon with a moment of silence to honor Rep. Bob Gannon, R-West Bend, who passed away last month.

The chamber then took up resolutions honoring former Department of Health Services Secretary and state Rep. Kitty Rhoades, who died in June of last year; as well as former Rep. Mickey Lehman, who passed away in August.

Later this afternoon, representatives are expected to take up two major bills: one on abortion coverage and another on sulfide mining.

The first bill would prohibit the Group Insurance Board from providing abortions for public employees or contracting to do so. The other would end the so-called moratorium on sulfide mining. It cleared an Assembly committee earlier this week on a party-line vote.
