MADISON, WI – Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin applauded the state Assembly for passing a trio of bills to reform Wisconsin’s outdated occupational licensing laws to help working class Wisconsinites enter the professions of their choice. The first measure, AB 508, will make it easier for more Wisconsinites to enter the building trades and gain important hands-on experience. The Assembly also passed two measures, SB 108 and SB 109, to remove onerous licensing requirements for Wisconsinites to work as cosmetologists and barbers.

Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin State Director Eric Bott made the following statement:

“From construction to cosmetology, Wisconsin’s current occupational licensing requirements are outrageous and pose a serious barrier to entry for low-income Wisconsinites who wish to work in these professions. The bipartisan reform bills passed by the Assembly today ensure that workers can safely practice the trade of their choice. We are pleased that lawmakers advanced these commonsense reforms today and will continue to push for occupational licensing reform in the coming years.”

AFP-WI noted particular appreciation for the authors of the reforms, Senator Chris Kapenga and Representatives Hutton, Kooyenga, and Kleefisch.
